Here in NZ we tend not to use the "spider wheel" type rakes, as its felt that they contaminate the silage / hay too much with soil.. If they do or not, I dont know, but the big gyro type rakes are all the fashion here, with most contractors having 4 rotor, 12 - 15 meter models.
I have found them handy very rarely. I find that the Zetor system tends to require constant oiling otherwise they seize up. This might be due to our muddy conditions and wet climate.
The JD ones without hooks dont fare much better, but are usable if you have no oil.
Hooks and balls are nice...
My main concern with trailed is both the cost and the stability on hills... or more so, the ability to stay where their supposed to be, as on damp clover, I have seen them well out of line!
That being said maybe I should not be taking the tractor there either!
Well I am not really a contractor, I just do a little bit on the side for a few of the local farmers.
I charge by the hour - this past season with a 2.8 meter mo/co I was charging NZ$120 / hour. So the steep hills cost more. And produce less silage. But they still seam to like cutting them...
Well I cant argue about red or green ( or orangeish either for that matter ) as I have MF, JD and Zetor and the others just aint worth owning :p
the concrete post... was that standing or lying? if its standing, then shit!... if its lying down, I have hit a total of 3 when mowing on farms I have...
the man from brussels was only 6'4"!!!!
I am 148Kg... played rep level rugby and also a couple of AB's B games at world cups.
Im just too slack when it come to training to be better :D
they might laugh at me, but I know of one guy here in NZ who has cut 10,000ha with one, and only ever changed the blades and kept it greased, running it at up to 25Kmh over rough ground. They definatly are not the most clean cutting mower - they make no claims to that, but cutting that sort of...
hehe.. yeah... only 2.5Kg? I would be after something heavier.. After all, I am 6'8"...
Drum mowers seam more robust to me... might go for the Maxam... their so simple... one drum is slightly higher than the other to avoid timing clash issues, their driven by one big solid belt... They have a...
Looking at a new mower... got too much to do for the old hack next season... have been looking at some NZ made ones which do a crap job but are suited to the roughest work ever imaginable ( maxam - either 2.5 or 3.3 meter drum mowers ) or going to a european mower...
Trailed mowers appeal to me...
I have run a Potty 320 novacat with conditioner on my 6110SE JD ( its wound to 80Hp on the shaft ) and I have no problems on all but the steepest hills with heavy crops. Thats water front and rear plus full front weights on the tractor.
I will admit that the larger 6420S runs it a lot better -...
Austrain.. sorry :D
Their popular because their tough I believe. I think that the cut takes second place behind something that will last. We tend to have some rougher land that gets cut around here, so the gear has to last
Thats what most contractors here in NZ are doing now, 3m across the front and 2 3 meter or larger mowers on the rear. These guys are mowing 10 - 15 Ha an hour - thats 25 - 40 odd acres an hour!. Most are using big Fendts or JD's - 250Hp and above, and some are burning fuel at the rate of 600L...
May I add that should it be the head gasket, then get the cooling system checked - maybe it has a blocked radiator? Many Zetors in NZ suffer from this, and a simple clean of the radiator will stop it happening again ( well, you have to replace the gasket too of course! )
yeah, it did have some nice features though. But the 6110 pulled it backwards, even with 2500 hours wear on the tires! Most guys in NZ who have them love them, and my partners father is a Same trained mechanic. He certainly does not see many back once their sold untill well after 5000 hours as...
