i bought my 11741 new in 06 and was always hard started and easy to stall it was also very smooky once started and would not tick over till it warmed up abit, i always thought it was a fule problem but iv gone tru the hole system over and over,, i made a few adjustments to the engin govener and it tickes over now but fairly high,, but all most never starts off the key, it also is not a batery or starter problem.. i hate it but i have to use easy start on her if i want to start it or run start it.. has any1 come across anything like this?

Hi I did lot of research in 2004/05 of how to reduce the smoke on cold starts on the Same 1000.6WT Tier II engined 11741 & came up with the following solution:-
After carrying out the usual pre-start checks:-
1 Turn ignition switch on
2 Glow plug light flashes, press rocker switch to start the automatic pre-heating.
3 Press down & hold foot throttle to give approx 1000 erpm if the engine was running
4 When glow plug light goes out immediately start engine (try not to exceed 1000 erpm)
5 As soon as the alternator starts to charge (Battery light out & rev counter working) release foot throttle & allow engine to idle
6 Glow plug light should flash slowly indicating secondary pre-heating allow engine to idle for a short time, giving the heaters chance to warm the induction air. The secondary pre-heating can go on for up to 7 minutes, It can be stopped by pressing the rocker switch.
7 Drive away as normal

I think it had to do with the retarded injection timing (for NoX emission control) of most TIER 2 engines, it caused TIER 2 JD engines to be very thirsty: So JD went with EGR for TIER 3A.

All TIER 2 Same engines were known for white smoke on startup, i am not so familiar with these engines so dont know if this engine has just electronic throttle or also electronic timing, but perhaps advancing the injection timing either by hardware or by software, may improve this ?

In common, the improvements in fuel economy by chiptuning are entirely caused by improved combustion while increasing NoX emission...
