ok have had this tractor several years only minor issues, I went to brush hog and the PTO would not stay engaged so I went to ground drive and after about an hour I hit some dirt and felt a little vibration so I got off to see it something was stuck and noticed the rear end was smoking hot turned off the PTO and went to the house. when I sprayed water on it, it was so hot I got steam. any idea's on where to start? any and all advice is welcomed.

Set it in neutral and try to twist the shaft by hand. will it turn ?

Where is it so hot that it smokes, the connecting shaft, or the tractor rear end ?

ok moved the tractor today so I could unhook brush hog and there is a vibration it feels like it is in the rear end? did not feel like the breaks were on either?
