I have a older 4340 and have read several posts on the location of the PTO speed selection switch which should be located under the seat. I have looked and looked under the seat area and there is nothing at all to change the PTO speed. I can see that there is a removable rubber piece in the middle of the seat area and I assume that this is the correct area to look but still nothing?

My tractor is in 1000 and this makes it bad for heavy Bush Hogging. Is there any other way to change the speed. I guess the selector has been removed or is broken off.

Thanks
Collin

Hi

It's a bit misleading to say it is under the seat. It actually comes through the floor between the 2 small gear levers. It is at the back end of the floor panel which covers the gearbox top. So when you sit on the seat look straight down and you should see it. The lever to the right is 1000 and with it to the left is 540.

I ordered an operators manuel which shows it and I just dont have it. Is it possible that this model may not come with a way to change the speed? or is it just missing?

It hasn't had the mod that gives a shuttle gear stick where the PTO gear change stick is in the book has it ?

1000 rev pto have been as optional equipment. In some countries importers did order all tractors with 540/1000 pto and other countries 540 pto was available only. Later models, like 4340 had 10+10 gearbox. In those models wasnt possible to order 1000 rev pto at all, because there was no enought room for forward/reverse gears and 540/1000 selector gears.

Shortly: if you have 10+10 speed gearbox, you have only 540 pto. And if you have 10+2 gearbox, you can have 1000 rev pto, but it isnt as a standard option. If 2 speed pto is fitted, there is 4 lever between your legs on the floor. If you havent, there is only 3 levers (main gear, high/low gear selector and pto connecting levers.)
