Can I ask some more questions about the 5245?

So now I discover that there is a compressor on our 5245 and I wonder if it is working and what the two little levers on it do. One is a little lever next to the cylinder and the other one is a little lever with a knurled knob on the side of the compressor. I can't see a storage tank, just a pipe that runs to a bowl and seems to terminate, doesn't look like any line runs to the rear of the tractor for trailer brakes.

Cheers

Hi as you dont have a storage tank there is no trailer or other air assisted equipment on your tractor. The little handle next to the sylinder and the other one is for engaging disengaging the compressor. IMPORTANT!!! dont engage compessor without the airhose that comes with the tractor when its new, the hose gets connected to the (bowl) as you say in the end of the pipe that comes from the compressor. its a screw on connection. in the bottom of the bowl it should be a cap screwed on its almost like a wingnut. screw it off and screw the air hose on instead. now for the little levers. you must have the engine running on low idle, then lift the lever next to the sylinder while you at the same time push the other level into the compressor block. this will engage compressor. to disengage reverse procedure. you may hear a little grinding noise as it engages but thats normal. now you can use the compressor for filling of tyres etc, but you will ned to have the engine rpm between 1400-1800 rpm to get the best effect. now i hope that was helpful to you :)

ahah, there is no air hose. When I unscrewed the bung at the bottom, the whole bowl assembly screwed off, so I am able to see the workings of it all. There is a shaft that is still hanging off the tractor that would run through the bowl to the bung, I suppose this opens a seal when the air hose is screwed on???

I was able to engage the compressor and run it and confirm there was air coming from the pipe - so maybe that shaft is not a seal after all??

I've got the bowl assembly at home now to see if I can fit some standard pneumatic fitting to it - any help appreciated!

ok heres the thing you cant work any pneumatic tools other than the tire filler hose. because to do this there would have to be a pressure tank and a pressure release walve. now if you attach a tool like a air ratchet or something it will work as long as you use the tool but when you stop it the compressorwill just keep putting air into hose until it blows. thats the problem.

Yes, I understand what would happen if I seal the system. I only want to have a quickfit connection on it so I can hook up an air hose I have to pump up tyres. This hose has a pressure gauge and screw-on valve connection and does not seal so is ideal for the tractor.
