5245 Clutch Adjustment

The clutch on my 5245 won't disengage. I thought that the clutch plate may be stuck to the pressure plate/flywheel, but I have tried freeing it by pulling and pushing against a tree (even blew a hydraulic line on my loader by pushing against a tree). My question is: Is there an adjustment on the pressure plate that may need to be done to correct the problem? If so, can it be adjusted without splitting the tractor.

Most probably your master cylinder is leaking. check that first.

I agree with Renze.

Just went through a similar experience with my 3340. Make sure to check your brake fluid level also, as brake fluid is also used in the hydraulic clutch. You may have a slow leak in the clutch hydraulics. If the brake fluid is low you might be able to temporarily 'fix' the problem by adding brake fluid (and possibly bleeding the clutch hyraulics). good luck!

I changed the slave cylinder last spring and put a new master cylinder in last week. The reservoir stays full. I bled the system after installing the master cylinder and again last night no air. Looking in the inspection port, I can see the fingers moving when pushing the clutch. The end of the fingers (at the outside edge of the flywheel) move 3/16 (5 mm). Does anyone know what the correct movement is?

I find it hard to believe that the clutch plate is stuck to the pressure plate/flywheel. I have been using the tractor and it sat maybe 2 weeks before the problem occurred. I have tried freeing the plate by hooking to a tree and pushing against a tree and no help .

Have a look at the post I left for the 4340 clutch problem on the main index. Could be the same problem.

The input shaft of the transmission maybe siezed in the pilot bearing at the crankshaft of the engine. The bearing or bushing maybe siezed. This will cuase continuous engagement between the crankshaft and the input shaft, making it feel like the clutch is not disengagining. Unfortunatly the tractor will have to be split to fix it. If it is siezed it can cause difficulty when trying to split the tractor.
