A couple of years ago I had a problem with my 5245 clutch and the throw bearing seized to the shaft (after a few years of little use). Had it split and fix.
Now I have the opposite problem....the clutch appears to be pushing the lever arm far enough, but the clutch won't disengage. Mechanic peeked today and agrees that the slave cylinder appears to be pushing far enough....but the clutch won't disengage. Wants to split it. Yuck.
First we will look inside the inspect plate and see what is going on.
I was working it hard, pulling a load of firewood logs up a good grade, and it has been running/working great over the past few years. Coming up the hill I clutched and shifted into low range, no problem. At the top of the hill I clutched and went back to high range, no problem. Went another few hundred feet and clutched, no problem....then another 50 feet and had no clutch action! It is always exciting when this happens....clutch and yet keep going.
I bleed the slave cylinder thinking I had air in the line or something, but don't see any fluid leaking from the slave, and like I said, I have about 3/4" to 1" of travel. There's still about 0.25" between the housing and the lever arm (i.e. it could go a little further), but seems like it is going enough.....?
Any thoughts? I drove into a dirt pile a few times trying to get it "break apart" if indeed it is a problem with a clutch plate stuck or something. No help .
I really don't want to split it again...it is expensive...yet I also don't want to be in situation were I can't trust the clutch. I use the tractor as a "lift" with a platform off the front loader up against the house....been doing that a lot the past couple of years....can't imagine what would happen if the clutch failed then!
Any suggestions, comments, experiences, are most appreciated!
Thanks!
Bruce
