I have a 1988 5245, no cab tractor with front loader. The pto shaft won't disengage since the last time I used it. It will disengage with the hand clutch, but the lever in the floor, all of the way forward, still runs the pto. The 540/1000 rpm shifter is in neutral and the pto still runs. What could have happened?
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg

There is a weld which cracks and lets the lever twist on the inside of the PTO selector lever. This gives you the impression it is out of gear but the lever has reached the end of its travel before disengaging the gears.

also, the C pin that connects the lever to the shift shaft, often wears and breaks in the end. Take off the cab floor (4 ? M8 bolts on each side of the transmission tunnel) and check the pin. Thats a much more probable cause than an actual weld crack of the lever itself.

Thanks, guys. It was the roll pin. It wasn't broken, but worn nearly through to the point that the lever bottomed out against the floor board before it shifted. Replaced the pin and all is well.

Greg
