Hi Zetorworld thanks for having me!

I have a problem with my Zetor 5340 (JD2200) overfilling the sump with diesel.
At first I thought it was hydraulic /gearbox oil and changed the front seal on the hydraulic pump, I used the tractor for a few hours while checking the oil regularly and the level stayed normal, the last time I checked the oil was nearly overflowing from the dipstick hole!! About 150mm higher after 1 hour operation between level checks.

I have removed the piston lift pump thinking that is the next suspect, the pump piston and bore have a lot of wear but I cant see how so much diesel is getting through the pumps push rod into the injector pump??

I will replace the lift pump but I want to know if anyone has any ideas about where the leak is before I destroy another 12+ liters of engine oil!

Could the injector pump front seal leak this much diesel into the engine?

Thanks for your advice!!

Could it be possible that this much diesel is entering via a faulty/stuck injector?

In my mind there are only 3 ways diesel could be entering the engine oil...

1- leaking lift pump - I have taken the pump apart and the piston is badly worn but the pushrod is nice and tight in the guide bore, I can't see how that much diesel is getting through to the injector pump.

2- leaking delivery valve - I changed all of the delivery valve 'O' rings last year but maybe one is passing? This seems to be the most likely cause.

3- leaking injector - I have removed all of the injectors and they don't look too good so I will replace the nozzles and have them tested/adjusted, I find it hard to believe that several liters of diesel could pass the rings in an hour of operation.

I should also mention that there has been an intermittent ticking sound coming from the engine cold or hot, just comes and goes randomly.

Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated!

Yes, your Zetor pump has no seperate oil reservior, instead the pump is oiled by pressure oil from engine and this oil must be back to the engine... This way diesel can be on engine oil and this means the pump is ready to rework.

I ship my Zetor pumps over a local dealer directly to motorpal and they check and rework the pumps at its best for a real fair price.

Ok an update.....

I have reinstalled all of the fuel system components except the mechanical lift pump which is now electric, after all of that I took the time and carefully examined/smell the used engine oil and realized it was not diesel but trans/hydraulic fluid!!!!!!!!

I removed the hydraulic pump again and found the new front seal had a split and was blown out.
Ive replaced the shaft seal and the front and rear 'E' seals inside the pump, now to put it on and try again.

If that doesn't work Im thinking maybe the pressure relief valve? Can this fail and cause over pressure, it seems it can only fail to reduce system pressure?

Hi, am just wondering have you resolved your problem, I am thinking of buying a zetor and can not understand how hydraulic oil could end up in the sump of your engine, are you talking about the hydraulic oil from the power steering pump, or hydraulic / engine oil and pump that operates the lifts and external pipes.

Sorry I can not help

the 5340 has a registry mounted hydraulic pump wich can if front seals fail let hydraulic oil into the engine. this is valid from 92 model and onwards. older has the pump inside the rear end.

Thanks for explaining. Hope you get your issue fixed.

Regards to all
