hi all , we are nearly finished restoring our 5611 and we have just started the tractor for the first time today but unfortunately the power steering is not working at all ,
we did have to separate the ram to replace the rubber gator during the restoration process but this was all we did ,
on reflection when we bought the tractor the steering had not been used for many years and the pipes feeding the ram were perished so we did not actually see the steering work properly , anyway we have refitted everything back as it should be and fitted new pipes and oil and the pump seems to be circulating the oil fine back into the tank with no sign of leaks , i have done a full lock of the steering from side to side with the front axle jacked up to relieve any air that might be in the system but still no joy , it doesn't want to actuate the ram at all for some reason ,
is there any other way tho bleed the system that i don't know about ???

help please as i have a vintage tractor run to attend next sunday , cheers terry .

Did you put in ATF oil (or VG21 hydraulic oil) in it, or heavy gear oil ?

The servovalve doesnt like thick oil. And now is winter time...

hi renze , thank you for the quick reply , we actually used a multi purpose farm oil in it ( 15 w 30 ) , and yes it is very thick especially with all this cold weather , i will drain it out today and use ATF fluid in it and see if this makes a difference , thanks renze .

here are a few pictures i took of the tractor and a video of her running .

Hi
Did you tighten the chrome piston all the way back to the rear block ? If you have a look at a recent post about a 6245 steering problem it tells you how to set the ram.
