hi every one newbie here I have a 6211 with brake problems ,that I am in the process of fixing myself, no brake on right side so removed half axle with small engine crane , handbrake band worn out . I removed wheel that shoes press on not sure of correct name ,but discovered shoes in good shape but covered in oil , almost sure its not brake fluid as level never dropped . the seal next diff looks ok ,but I will replace where else could this oil come from

If i remember correctly, there are three seals: an O ring, a lip seal (take the caps off because they can only be knocked out of their pocket from the inside) and a serrated rubber ring that seals between the brake drum and the shaft itself. (the lip seal runs on the brake drum, the rubber ring seals between the shaft and the drum)

There's a seal down in the final drive portal around the halfshaft to stop gear oil getting onto the brakes.
Ahh , there is also a seal to keep oil inside the final reduction, off course. forgot that one, ive never had to replace one of those :sneaky:

sorry folks didn't get back sooner had trouble logging in , so signed up again , as for my brakes on my 6211 got all my new parts , still waiting on one seal I think on further inspection there was very little oil in finals so must be where oil is coming from , correct me if iam wrong but I just see three oil seals one next diff ,a little round ribed one on main drive shaft that sits into drum , and a o ring on other side of drum , did yous say there was more and by the way folks thanks for the help much appreciated.

can anyone fill me in about the set up on the handbrake set up on my 6211?

im not an expert by any means, but there seems to be a lackof experts at the moment, ,
if its mechanically similar to my 6711 there a brake band both sides which is adjusted by a nut on a thread which just alters the length of the band. on the 6711 , with no cab floor, theres a pair of ventilated plates on top of the brakes just about where your hands will fall when your sat on the seat, four bolts to take the plate off and you can see the top of the brake band and its adjuster. i presume on a 6211 youd have to remove some of the cab floor beside the seat. but ive never played with anything that modern:)

The most asked question is about brake replacement. Use Google site search and there are dozens of topics that explain the basics. Everyone is glad to answer a direct question that remains unanswered after reading the basics in one of those earlier threads, but get tired of typing down the basics for each and every new member, i guess :)

Oh well, maybe its time to compose a HOW-TO thread with the basics, and make it "sticky" on top of the topic list.
