New member with a question, I am in the process of putting piston assemblies back into the motor and cannot remember with way the connecting rods go. On one side of the top of the rod next to the wrist pin there is a square casting. Does this casting face the camshaft side or the other side?
Thanks in advance.

Cant remember seeing this on my 3011 last summer. Anyways, one thing is very important: Do not interchange connecting rods and bearing caps, i couldnt freely turn my 3011 engine and couldnt figure out why: When i changed bearing caps from cylinder one and cylinder 3, it turned smoothly: Apparently i started re-assembling from the wrong end of the row. Therefor, the bearing caps were slightly offset to the rods which gave dead points when turning the crankshaft by hand. You can check the axial play of the conrod bearing by hand, you should be able to move it a wee bit, to allow for thermal growth of the engine when hot.
