Hi there,
the families 6245 four wheel drive is very hard to turn left (two handed as hard as you can turn) but turns right very easily. When I lift the front end off the ground, it turns easy to the left.
What could be the cause of this and how do you fix it??
Thanks so much for your time
Chris

Hi

The problem is the ram adjustment. At the back end of the chrome piston is a clamp. Loosen this and turn the chrome piston slightly. I helps if you have it jacked up. It's trial and error to get it right and it's a fine adjustment to stop the steering wheel spinning one way or the other.

thanks for the info. That was a problem before for us but this time the steering wheel does not move on its own while driving or sitting, it is just VERY hard to turn left. It takes two hands almost to do it. I figure there has got to be an adjustment for it but the book does not say how  , but again thanks for telling me how to fix that other problem.

I had that once on our 5245. It was caused by failure of an axle kingpin bearing. (on the steering arm side)
