I just put a new solenoid (bendix?) on my starter. If the battery is charged up the tractor fires right up and starter disengages. If I release starter button before it starts the starter will not release and melt the terminal of of the battery. Does anyone have a solution to my problem. I thought it was the solenoid and put a 2nd new one on and it did the same thing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

it sounds like a mechanical problem in the bits of the starter that move the little cog into engagement with the ring gear on the flywheel... really all you can try is to make sure everything in that end of the starter is clean and the cog moves easily allong the shaft, if that doesnt work its probably easiest to fit another starter... they are on ebay

Thanks for the reply, I will remove starter and clean and lube gear and see if that fixes the problem.
