Hi

Earlier this winter I got a problem with the brakes, the pedal got soft but brakes still worked.

Last night the warning lights for low air came on. Pressure stopped just below the green on the gauge. So there was pressure but too low pressure.

Today I refilled brake fluid, reservoir was almost empty. Filled up and started the tractor.
Air pressure rose up to just below the green on the gauge. I pushed the brakepedal and then suddenly airpressure dropped all the way to the bottom.

I can hear there is air leaking somewhere but cant find out where.

Any ideas??

Was the fluid tank completely empty? If it was then both brake and clutch cylinders might be leaking. Have you found any brake fluid leaking? When I bought my new 2003 6341 I had problems with clutch and brake cylinders leaking, the company replaced them with same brand as JD. For the air leak, I would check the 4X4 cylinder and also diff lock cylinder. The inlet hoses are in exposed positions, or could have died of old age. Get a spray bottle with soap and water to help find leaks.

Thanks for your input.

Clutch works perfect.

The fluid reservoir is split in two, only the one for the brakecircuit are empty. I cant see any leaks, my guess is that one of the rear brake cylinders are leaking iside the rear end.

Is there a valve that gives air to the front air assisted brakes that maybe is stuck open??

When I stop the tractor the airtank is almost immidiatly empty.

Well now everything is fine :)

As I said I added fluid but since I was alone I couldnt bleed the brakes. Today I got a friend to help me and we bleed only the rear brakes. Alot of air in the system.

Now eveything works. Airpressure gauge is on the green and seems to be back to normal.

SO if you have a brakefluid leak and then alot of air in the system something hangs up and doesnt let the compressor build pressure??

Or was this just a fluke?

there is an air valve that uses air pressure to push fluid to the front wheel brakes. they can go bad and fail causing both loss of air and fluid. rear brakes will be visible leaks on outside of tractor as they sit on the outside of the body because these have wet brakes, so no way the brake fluid is dissapearing inside of body.

Thanks!

Does this valve sit besides the fuel tank?

I will have to have a close look on where the brake fluid goes. I have a leak somewhere.

i dont remember where it sits but if you trace the lines from the front brakes they will end up in this valve.
