When checking the oil level in my 6718 today, the oil came out and started over flowing from the dip stick. The oil is black and not milky which I think rules out that any water is getting in? I think it might be diesel getting in as it does look a bit on the thin side. The tractor was running and driving as it should with out any visable problems.Has anyone had any experiene with this happening and any advice on putting it right will be very helpful? Thanks.

so it ran from the dipstick hole, not from the plug on the centrifugal oil filter...

When not used at operating temperature, fuel can condensate and fill the crankcase. when you get it to operating temperature the oil level can drop fast because of evaporation.

Yes, when I pulled the dipstick out oil came flowing up and out of the dipstick hole. someone told me it could be a seal coming from the pump?? I can't see how else the diesel would get in to the oil.

Hi

If the oil seems thin it probably has diesel in it. The usual culprit is the lift pump. Could be the injection pump front seal but not common. The only other possible cause could be the steering pump, but you should have noticed it using steering oil, assuming it has power steering fitted.
