When slashing the PTO engage lever keeps slipping up or down at irregular intervals causing PTO to disengage. How to fix please?

When slashing the PTO engage lever keeps slipping up or down at irregular intervals causing PTO to disengage. How to fix please?

It runs out of gear ?

There is a row of 5 bolts in front of the lever, these are hollow with a spring and ball inside. These cause the clicking you hear when you select a gear.

Either the most left one became undone, or the spring broke, so that it doesnt press the ball tight into the notch on the shifter rod, allowing the gear to wander.

Check that, and when in doubt, swap with another arrestor bolt to see if your problem persists.

I have looked at the bolt/spring and they seem ok. I will change over to another and see if it still occurs once I get going again.
