My 6945 has developed a new trick - when it's left ticking over for long periods from time to time it will rev up by itself - just as if someone had pressed the gas pedal. This lasts just three or four seconds and is accompanied by extra smoke from the exhaust (blue, black, and white, before you ask ).
Maybe oil is getting into the inlet manifold, or something like that?
Is this a common problem, and an (here's hoping!) easy fix?
Is it possible, remembering the problems I have with a large amount of oil coming out through the crankcase breather, that now the engine is so worn that oil is getting past the pistons on the downstroke, and into the combustion chambers that way? Would this cause the surging effect?
Yeah - the tractor has been in need of a rebuild since I got it (which I knew about at the time). I think I'll be lucky if I can get away with rings and a hone though. I have been thinking in terms of new pistons/liners, but I suppose I won't know until I pluck up the courage and open it up...
Arctic, have you changed oils from injection pump corrector? And is there right oil level?
That is typical problem for older PAL injection pumps. It occur old pump model that has its own oil, not connected with engine lubricant circuit. You or the previous owner havent changed oils and corrector is worn out now, or there is not oil enought!!!!
If it is oil level it isnt big problem, but if it is the corrector, you must buy new one
I've topped up the oil in there three times now, since I got the tractor. It doesn't loose much there. Having said that it has been a while since I checked it, so will do so ASAP!
You have 2 oil levels. The one in the rear section is set using the dipstick on the filler plug. The front section has a level plug about 2 inches up from the bottom.
