The rev counter on my recently acquired 7045 is going full scale then falling back to zero repeatedly. The engine is running fine. Can any one help please

i am guessing here, but....
if it is cable driven, there are usually 3 parts, the worm drive, the cable and the rev counter.
remove cable from rev counter and see if it turns smoothly when engine is running. if not its the cable or the drive.
follow cable back to block and locate drive, remove inspect for damage or wear.
if all is ok its probably the rev counter faulty.

if its electronic, similar but rev counter, wire, sensor. but youre on your own there!

Thanks grumpy6711, it's an electronic version. I can see the sender until by the alternator with 3 wires. Would there be a fuse related?

sorry, i am a simple mechanical type, i know nought bout electronics.
but usually if there is a fuse protecting something and the fuse blows , the something generally stops working full stop, so unlikely to be a fuse , unless its a dodgy intermittent connection.

if you cant fix it with a hammer, get a bigger hammer!:)
