Hi all,

Just looking for a 2nd opinion before I go splitting my 8011.

It is making a groaning noise when the PTO is turned on, and whenever the PTO comes under a heavy load.

Also a vibration can be felt through the floor, just under your feet, at the same time.

I have a feeling that it might be the hub at the rear end of the hollow shaft, ( the gear which drives the hydraulic pump, torque pump etc)

My tractor has the old system, without the lubrication feed to the hollow shaft, and I did notice some wear on the hollow shaft & hub when I replaced the clutch last year.

Anyone have this problem before ?

Thanks

Mark

Don't split the tractor until you have checked out the PTO clutch pack which is behind the PTO shaft on the back of the tractor. The noise you describe is almost certainly that clutch slipping.First check the Hyd pressure by putting a guage on either of the pipes to the right of the PTO. should be 175 PSI .One pipe has pressure when the other doesn't according to where the PTO lever is.
If thats OK then face the tractor down a steep slope, drop the drawbar assy and undo the ring of bolts then the PTO clutch pack can be pulled out. Check the 3 o-rings around the pack and if they are OK then the pack will have to be taken apart by removing the big circlip in the end, taking out the plates and examining the piston cuff seal and centre seal. problems should be apparant. The other fault is in the front of the pack where there is a pair of "piston rings" whose ends hook together to send the pressured oil to the piston. These break occasionaly . you will probably need a press to push the front housing off.
Hope this helps, Dave
