8540 540rpm pto to 1000rpm pto

I have a 8540 tractor with the 540 speed pto that I need to convert to 1000rpm to operate a generator that I will not use very often. Can I change the speed of my output shaft without a lot of trouble? Some tractors have a selector shift to change and some pull the output shaft, turn it around and put it back in. What are my options on this tractor? It

Hi,

You can turn the shaft round and it will be 1000 with 21 splines.
Or
Take it out, fill the recessed hole in the end with something, then put it back in and it will then be 1000 with 6 splines.
