I just ordered a manual for a 9540 as I couldn't find anything specific to a 8540. I hope i have not wasted 25. Assumedly the two have a lot of features/parts in common?
Re. cold starting problems- new 180ah battery has helped. All heater plugs ok. Regulator seems to operate intermittently, when it does and orange dash light comes on she starts lovely, sometimes regulator/ heater refuses to stir and battery has to work overtime; still it rarely gets sub zero here and she's housed and used most days.
The "superfluous" stop cable seems to disconnect the throttle linkage and was a major contributor to my lack of success at starting this tractor... I bled it several times, replaced o-ring in lift pump, replaced battery before I realised that messing with stop button had disconnected linkage.... I'm learning!! but I like this tractor and the way it's put together.

These tractors are 98% identical. Good luck with your new tractor !! :)
