hi every i bought a 9540 a few months back . with 2000hours on it it has the 4 heater plug engine . but at around 1500rpm theres a miss in the engine you dont hear it on low or high revs . and were not very impressed with the power of engine . any ideas please

Hi,
could be low compression , faulty injector, faulty injector pump or governor.......... or even a sticky valve or tight tappet.
is the miss better or worse under load?
is it better or worse when hot/cold
is the miss regular (-bang,bang,bang,miss-) or intermittent? (bang bang, miss, bang, miss, miss, bang, bang, bang, bang, miss, bang, miss)
is there Blue or White smoke coming out the exhaust?...... if so, in puffs or continuously?
is there any (visible) blow-by out the crankcase breather?
if it is a regular miss, you can check which CYL by loosening off the injector pipes one at a time (to cause a miss) with the engine running at no load and at ~1400-1500rpm ..... Whichever injector pipe makes little or no difference.... that's the problem one...... also note that diesel is coming out the loosened pipe.
to test under load conditions, loosen off 3 at once........ The remaining CYL should develop just enough power to keep the engine spinning at mid revs at full power. Check the engine speed running on each of the 4 cyl's and note if one CYL is down on power............. as well as any changes in smoke or blow-by

good luck with the testing, from your answers we should be able to identify the problem :)

yes will get a look in next few weeks .. think will check tappets and injector pump timing have a feeling its nothing to major.. and i think a small twist up of pump . theres no smoke at all at min

Yes, check tappet settings! .... Also check that you dont have a weak valve spring (just compare how hard they are to push down to each other)
Injector timing will not make it miss, and if it is far enough out to lose power it will be pumping out clouds of either Black or White smoke............ i had a turbo Diesel (LD28 ) Car that had the timing set 180Deg out (ie injecting near bottom dead centre) and it still drove, was just hard to start and noisy at idle, and about 2/3rds of normal power, and smoked like hell...... drove it around for a week before i found the problem!

Check everything else first. The pump timing is the last thing to worry about.... and not all that easy to check without the right tools........ Unless you suspect it has been fiddled with already..,..... Look for signs of burrs and missing paint on the nuts that secure the pump to the engine.

hi all checked tappets all fine. going to pull the injector pump of now . are thes pumps the same as the cyrstal range theres a connecting colar from pump to engine. thanks

hi getting back to this job did a compression test of all cylinders getting 300psi on all . sent the pump and injectors of today to get checked will let you no the out come

Thanks for the update....... always interesting to know the outcome :)

hi all miss gone .. pump and injectors were reconditioned and i replaced all the rubber hoses on fuel system. and got pump turned up a bit . feels likes a 93hp tractor now. thanks for all the help

hi forgot to say if your ever taking of injector pump of a 9540 .. loosen of the nut that hold on timing gear and turn nut around it will push of gear of shaft and try and keep keyway to top so key does not fall into timing cover
