I was brush cutting last night and a limb opened up my radiator drain plug and leaked all my coolant out. I didnt get tractor stopped until it overheated pretty bad. Let it cool down and started it this morning. It turned over and started, but was running rough and had really bad blow by. Trying to find which cylinder is messed up. Doesnt seem to have any coolant in oil. Stuck rings, melted rings, hole in piston? Any suggestions? I have never compresion tested a deisel before. How do I do it. Thanks guys.

Old trick from the serivcemen of where i work:
Throw some oil on the pistons. If that restores compression , its the piston rings. If not, its the valves.

I have also seen a rebuild shop guy test valves, by putting a vacuum meter against the exhaust port, measuring how good it held the vacuum.
