Alternator, regulator and Co

Caution - never let the engine run with the ignition key removed or the battery disconnected. There is a risk that the diodes in the rectifier of the three-phase alternator will break and thus destroy the rectifier.

Design and structure of an alternator on a Zetor tractor
  • DC alternator with external regulator (Zetor 15, 25 and 50 Super, first models of the UR1)

  • Differences in the performance curves between DC (GLM) and three-phase alternators (DLM):

  • Three-phase alternator with external regulator Motorpal (often to found in Zetor 4712 up to Zetor 7745)

This type can easy replaced by next type, please also take a look at the wiring diagrams downwards

  • Three-phase alternator with integrated regulator (later produced Zetor 5211 and newer one models)

on last pic you can see the internal regulator mounted with two cross screws

Regulator - types and tips
  • Classic regulator
(often to see at Zetor 25 up to Zetor 6911 with old type DC alternator)
    1727513908018.png

  • Classic original Zetor (Motorpal) regulator, mounted outside the alternator for Zetor
(often to see at Zetor 5011 to 7745 models)

  • Newer regulators mounted outside the alternator for Zetor 4712 to 7745 models in certain variations

or this one for older Zetor 25 up to 4511 with DC alternators

    16 = D = to alternator +
    19 = B = to battery +
18 = M (dynamo field) = to excitation voltage connection alternator
    Regulator: 95 5786 (RG15)

Suitable alternators: original PAL 97 6227 or P20D (Polish)

  • Regulators integrated in alternators like from Zetor 3320 and newer ones

Connections to various alternators on the Zetor tractor
  • Connection identifiers DIN
    • 61 charge control light
    • B+ Battery plus sometimes also labeled "30"
    • B− Battery minus sometimes also labeled "31" (ground)
    • D+ (R) Dynamo plus (also corresponds to "61")
    • D− Dynamo minus (only on DC alternators or three-phase alternators with external regulator)
    • DF (M) Dynamo field (only on DC alternators or three-phase alternators with external regulator)
    • DF1 Dynamo field 1
    • DF2 Dynamo field 2
    • W Tachometer (on the alternator, often on diesel vehicles)
Other alternative connection identifiers:

Addition to DDR alternators:
If a contact "IG" (Ignition) or "R" is present on the three-phase alternator, a switched line (12V+) from the ignition switch is connected there. The cable then supplies the voltage directly to the alternator regulator, so that it always receives voltage immediately to switch on.

Connection diagram of various alternators on the Zetor tractor
  • DC alternator with external regulator like Zetor 25 up to 4511 mostly have mounted

  • Three-phase alternator with external regulator like Zetor 4712 up to 7745 mostly will have out of factory

  • Three-phase alternator with integrated regulator inside
