Blown head gasket

Hi,
I have a 2003 7341 and it blew the head gasket on number 1 cylinder in December 2013, the exhaust fumes were escaping between the head and the block I fixed it, but it has split the gasket again. I noticed it about 2 weeks ago. It is split on the exhaust side facing the rad, the water level and cab heater are working fine at the moment. The gasket is sticking out about a 1mm from the head and so far there are no exhaust fumes escaping from the cylinder.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem and if the did how did they sort it?

Obvious, but did you have the head skimmed at a rebuild shop before installing a new gasket ??

Brand new castings that havent been weathered, can warp when settling, but if its 10 years old you can be sure this is not the cause.

What head nut torque did you use ?

Hi renze,
I skimmed the head and it was replaced by the main dealer.
He torqued it 150n m ,I think. It also blew head gasket on cylinder 3, 15 months after it was replaced in September 2013,so far it is ok.

yes had same problem on Our 7341. i was used to older zetors With this engine. and when i changed head gasket i tightened it then drowe 100 hours and thighten it again. but it blew 3 times. until i figured out that these tractors should be thightened, then drive it warm let it cool and re tighten. then it stopped blowing gaskets. Operator error i Call it skimming of these sigle heads i never know of anyone who had to do. they are so small and sturdy that they dont get bent, in my experiense.

I think thats the standard procedure on all older engine designs with head bolts that you tighten by torque, at least, what you describe is exacty what they allways taught me...

Most modern engines have stretch bolts which you tighten based on rotational angle, then these bolts are stretched so far that you dont need to retighten.

the old ur1 the62,72,and 7745 was re tightening afer hundred work hours. This is what zetor dealer told me and what has been the standard procedure. there are not stretch bolts. but the super series came With the New procedure. thats why gaskets kept blowing after re fitting. i think it has to do both With turbo and and greater Power outtake of engine. and a New headgasket came about the same time the super series entered the market. the other big issue With these engines was that the o rings on the cylinder liners wet bust, causing water to get into the oil. but this problem occured usally within the first Three years of operation or within 1000-1500 Hours.

They did use gel type headgaskets for the 7745 turbo engine, indeed. But ive never heard of O ring problems here. The only odd failure ive heard on a 7745, was that the rivets holding the crown gear to the differential, in rare occasions tore off when ploughing a 3 furrow reversible on heavy clay.

I dont think that was a common problem because we never had a problem with the 5245 even though i have dug basements with it with the 1m3 3 point bucket, stalling the engine in low range reverse by pushing and lifting at the same time..

To make it Clear it was the super series that had o ring problems. and headgasket problems. not the 7745 and those tractors.

I had the same problem with my 7341. It started to let water into oil at 1800hrs but it was 9 years old. There was only 1500 hrs on her when I bought it in 2009. There was no anti freeze in her when I got it. I replaced the cyclinder liners and pistons plus 4 new head gaskets. I have 2 more on her since.
What gasket did you put on yours were they 1.2mm or thicker?
Good to know I am not the only one with similar problem.

its so long ago that i dont remember, but i was told it was a New reinforced gasket. and they lasted as long as i had the tractor. when i got the tightening procedure right.

Hmmm... that was in the late 90s... I think these were teething problems were with the first asbestos free gaskets, that got sorted out in time... And perhaps the asbestos gaskets required tightening after 100 hours, and the asbestos free gaskets required tightening after the engine has been warm once...
