The TA and the PTO share the same
hydraulic pump, which is situated on the rear side of the front grarbox bulkhead. it can't be removed without splitting the tractor.
To check if its working and up to pressure you require a pressure guage which measures 175 PSI.
This guage must be fitted onto one of the pipes which go into the PTO pack on the right side of the rear axle housing above the drawbar. Run the tractor at 1500 RPM and the pressure should reach 175 Psi or thereabouts. If there's no pressure move the PTO engagement lever under the steering wheel and re check. One or other of the pipes is under pressure at all times. one pipe closes the clutch pack and the other brakes it. The spool valve that operates the TA & Pto is accessed by removing the cab floor lower section. The relief valve is in there as well.
Its possible that a serious internal leak in the PTO pack is the problem, but unlikely if the TA doesn't work wherever the PTO lever is.
The pumps do wear out and a very low pressure indicates this,
but before you split the tractor check the pump output off the pipe that goes into the spool valve. DO NOT do this unless you have a guage incorporating a relief valve !
Another common fault is the very short length of braded rubber pipe that is behind the pump and is the suction pipe. You would have to split the tractor to get at that as well.
In view of the fact that the TA doesn't work either, first check pressures, then the spool valve operation, making sure the levers havn't become detached from their studs under the floor.
Good luck !!
