Difficult cold starting with my 6011

I was very fortunate to have included in the deal when I bought my house in France, a Zetor 6011. It's in fair nick for a relatively elderly tractor but it is really difficult to start from cold. It has no glow plugs and not even a manifold heater. I'm no diesel expert although competent enough to do most jobs on it. My question is, is it a matter of "they all do that sir" or are there some issues I should be looking for before I give in and get "the tractor boys" round to have a look.

I should add that it does fire up eventually, but it takes ages cranking and using "easy start". Once I've got it started and it's run for a while, if I need to stop the engine and restart it, it does so with no difficulty.
 
Its a fuel issue. Gravity pulls the fuel back to the tank when old porous fuel lines allow air to get in.
 
are you aware of the cold start excess fuel button?

pull the hand throttle fully open , then look on the front of the injection pump... the lump on the left side of the engine with diesel pipes on it....on the front of the pump, radiator end, theres a wee metal plunger to push in. push it in then start the tractor. shut the hand throttle down to a fast idle as soon as engine starts

button will only click in with the hand throttle fully open., resets itself when engine fires up


suggest you look on fleabay for an instruction book or cd


 
6011 doesnt have it... 10 series onwards had an automatic cold start device which is engaged when the engine is not running and its started from dead.

On the 2011 i could reach the cold start button from the seat by leaning over, giving instant 3011 power when accelerating with a load of bales
 

6011 HAS A COLD START BUTTON. automatic cold start came with the 2 series and the self lubricating fuel pump.
 
Thanks for your replies. Really sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you but I've been busy with new lambs and other stuff and haven't needed the tractor (I call him Igor, by the way) I was aware of the cold start button, but it doesn't seem to make any difference, so I'm assuming that the fuel issue answer is the direction in which to look.

I don't know when Igor was last serviced, so I need to do some work on him. I've bought fuel filters, so I'll start by replacing them.

Now, I know that I'll need to bleed his fuel system once the filters are changed, is there any special technique required ? Sorry to ask what is probably a stupid question, I do have a workshop manual, but it's clearly been translated, I guess from Czech and unfortunately lots of it doesn't make for easy understanding.

Untighten the bolt inbetween both filters and use the hand pump till steady flow of fuel comes out.
 


 
I received a workshop manual from the man I bought my 6011 from. And I agree, they must be translated. Very hard to rear and use
