Just purchased a 3340 with about 950 hrs on it.
While going over it front to back and side to side I noticed that when changing the front planetary oil on the right side, no oil came out of the drain plug, vent plug open. I also noticed that the universal flops around. So I have to open up the planetry hub and check what is going on and replace some parts. After taking out the 8 or so bolts that hold the hub on the hub does not come loose from the backer assembly. Does anyone know what the next step is?

Then the needle bearings are gone. If yours has bolts on the hub itself, its an early 3340 with the old light duty Zetor front axle: later ones had a Carraro.

Ive replaced both hubs on a 5245 because the shafts wore into the bores till the gears ran so misaligned that they jammed.

There are two holes in which you can screw a hub bolt to press the hubcap off. When the bearings are replaced change oil after a week. Mine failed again from break-in filings.

For the 3 cylinder with the light duty front axle the Carraro was an upgrade. For the 4 cylinders with the planetary hub, it was a downgrade.
