hard starting low on power

I have a 3340 . rebuilt the engin this year because of antifreeze leak. now it is hard starting will crank for about 20 seconds then one cylinder will fire . lots of white smoke then a second cylinder and then finally the third one fires. have to let it run for about two minutes before I have enough power to start moving in while in first gear hi range on level ground. The timing was out from the factory and has been reset. rebuilt pump and new lift pump installed. no fuel leaks . Did have a electric fuel pump on but dealer took it off as they claim it was causing to much fuel to bypass and this was the cause of power loss. I was down to under 35 hp now they can get almost 40 hp . But still is very hard to start. With winter coming I do not think I will ever get it started.I have had trouble now and it is not freezing out yet . any idea's out there what I should be trying next. also when pump was rebuilt the injectors were check

Hmm.. Timing is right, injection pump rebuilt, injectors checked... engine rebuilt, does that mean piston rings as well as valves ?

is there a diesel shop in your area that can test the compression ?

Sounds like some water is leaking thru a head gasket, a cracked head, or a cracked block (or any combination of the three). Perhaps a cooling system pressure test will tell if there is leakage into the cylinders.

I quess it is timing Are you sure that timing is correct? Should check it once for sure

MAYBE THE FUEL PUMP IS (STUCK) WACK IT WITH A BIG HAMMER! OR ITS PICKING UP AIR SOMEWERE IN A PIPE OR MAYBE A BOLT UNION? THAT WHITE THREAD TAPE DOES THE TRICK
