is 6748 change on the go

totally crap at tractors.... but is the 7 seies change on the go.

ie while driving do i start with 1 and change while moving or do start in the gear i want and stay in this gear. both seem to work although changing on the go will take a bit of getting used to.

i may as well find out now before i do any damage.

 
normally on field work you start i the gear you want to work in.
on the road start off in as high a gear as possile... which one depends on what sort of weight your trying to shift... just the tractor on the flat you can start off in fifth. theres no synchro so downchanges go better if you double declutch, ie shift into neutral , let the clutch up , then push it down again to select the lower gear.
 
thanks for that. i prefer the starting off in gear i need.

i bought both manuals and it confused me a bit. seems to be a good machine. only a seal fault so far....
 
Empty i start off in 4th. I never start in 5th, its a waste of clutch.
depending on the load, i start in 2nd with 15 ton behind it, 10 ton takes off in 3rd.

you towing 15 ton with a 6748?
 
seems a lot of pulling power for this size of tractor.

i wont be trying, i haven't got any thing big or heavy enough,
MMmm just going to check the wife...........

love the tractor though.
got a few sealand o ring problems. lift ram seal is next.
 
we used that size of tractor with 8 ton trailers, but i wouldnt like to try to stop anything much heavier on the road... though i guess brakes on the trailer would help youve also got to look at drawbar loads and overloading the rear tyres..... ive towed a laden concrete truck onto site.through the mud on a chain , but wouldnt dream of trying a trailer of that weight on the road.
 
My brother occasionally pulls 20 ton dumptrailers with it, and has just bought a 15 ton dumptrailer for his 6718. In a flat country like here, it works as long as you know what you're doing, and have your trailer brakes in order.

I've pulled 15 ton with the 5245 and YES, you need hydraulic brakes, and be careful with potholes because the 10m3 manure tanker had 3 ton drawbar pressure.. Zetor axles are beefy and take more than the 3600kg on the serial plate, but i just dont want to take any risk..
If you plug the brakes in to your auxilary spool valve and operate it by hand, you dont have to use the tractor brakes at all.
 
I used to tow 2 rur 5 spreaders behind a 6718 when going from job to job just wondered if that was legal?
