Hi without any warning the gears are grinding whilst Im trying to engage on my 7245. Keep on bleeeding the clutch but although there is good travel still grinding and wont engage. Took the rubber off the cylinder and piston travelling showing one of the seals. Is this a symptom of thrust bearing or is there another option?
Dave

Hi Dave,

Its almost certainly a siezed thrust bearing and it has worn the ends off the release levers. Take the side plate off and shine a light into the cluitch housing. You should be able to see if the ends are worn off the fingers.

Regards

Mike

Will this mean having to splitt the tractor or can it be done easily?
Dave

Its possible that the "top hat" shaped covers on the clutch toggle arms, or at least one of them, has worn through.
Its a bit of a fiddle but they CAN be replaced through the inspection hole.
Just be sure to attach a piece of string to any tools you use in the clutch housing.
I once had to wait until my 6 year old son got home from school to retrieve a spanner i dropped as his arm was small enough to fit past the flywheel !
Count the number of turns on the nuts as you take them off, and replace exactly. Do all of them because if one has worn through the rest will soon follow.

Ive a shipment coming in Friday that I desperatly need the tractor to unload. We have a reallly good local dealer here, he is sending his engineer tommorow, fingers crossed he can sort it!
Thanks for your help
Dave

Sorted by the engineer, three cup shaped bushes were the problem. The engineer repaired it in 1 1/2 hours through the inspection hatch. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem, a nice simple solution.
