Knocking noise, Help please

Hi all.

I have a Zetor 7045. Haven't had any problems with it apart from normal wear & tear until now. I now have 2 problems and don't know if they are related.

1) There is a lot of smoke from the exaust when the tractor is ticking over. It is still visible but not quite as bad when the engine is warm but is very bad when doing light work. If it has been idling for a while, then there will be an enormus amounyt of blue/grey smoke when the engine is reved. I have had the injectors checked and they are OK.

2) The engine sounds perfectly normal when driving around the yard or along the road when there is no pull on the tractor.
There is a very noticible Knocking noise either from the engine or the clutch housing when driving up a hill or pulling a load at road speed.

Tomorrow, I have planned on dropping the sump and having a look at all the bearings in that end.

Anybody else got any other ideas.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Jimmy C,

Sounds like your self diagnosis and remedy is a good first step.

Re 1. Smoke - It could be an oil ring(s) that has gone.

Re 2. Knocking - This sounds potentially more serious. I dont know how the crankshaft is constructed on the 7xxx series but I had a problem once with my Zetor Crystal 8011 where it threw one of the alloy bungs that are screwed into the crankshaft. Unfortunately this resulted in serious bottom end damage, crank re-grind and rebuild.

Whereabouts are you located? I live in Claremorris.

Hi Tom,

I'm near Tullamore. Good to see someone else from Ireland. Thanks for the info.

Jimmy.
