I have 1986 6245, oil leaking from front of Transmission where front axle exits, how much of a major to repair. i am no mechanic

Hi,

Do you mean where the driveshaft comes out of the drop box ?
If so, you have to dismantle the UJ in place so that you can get the split pin out and undo the castle nut holding the shaft in. You may get the nut undone without dismantling the joint but it is very awkward. Drain the oil and then once the shaft is off, replace the 2 seals and the sealing washer in the centre of the shaft.

Hey Phil,

Bet you're sorry you asked! LOL

Doug ???

Thanks Mike

Sounds easy apart from the how do i dismantle UJ in place ?

Have just got some thicker oil , will this sort leak out?

Thanks for the reply Dave, should not be to much of a problem as no oil showing on dip stick
