opening a 30k 5341 out to 40k

Hi Renze.

Though being immpressed with our 5341 we purchased earlier this year, i have begun to get a bit sick of the slow 30k road speed. Can they be opened out to 40k easily and safely? Being totally non-mechanically minded it would have to be very simple or done by a dealer. if so how much would such an operation be likely to cost? Any replies appreciated

Pure mathematics tell you to get 40k out of a 30k tractor @ 2200rpm requires an engine speed of 2933rpm which cannot be good for an engine with a max speed of 2400rpm.
It is only the 7341 out of the UR1 series that is built for the 40k road speed. There is 3 main differences these being:-
1 Final drive gearing
2 Four wheel braking (wet discs in front axle)
3 Larger wheels

The gearwheel underneath the gearbox, to drive the 4wd cardan shaft, OR the front axle bevel gear set, have to be changed as well.
I am not sure, i think it is the gearwheel.

I would forget about it, if you want the dealer to do it, you could better trade it for a 40k version, this would be cheaper than having the dealer modify both axles.

Renze i have just looked at the uk spec sheets for the Super series and it says that there is a 40K version of the 5341. So in fact you were wrong. What does a 40K version have that a 30k version doesn't in terms of engineering?

Rebuilding to 40 k would mean gear wheel change.. that's too complicated i guess.. too costly

Just out of interest, why do some '41 series tractors have red main gear levers, while others have yellow/gold? Does a redgear lever constitute to a 40K tractor?
