I recently got a 5745 of my friend. It's a great tractor. In fact I just about like it better than my 8011, which is a great tractor but the little one I see all round where visibility is reduced on the Crystal due to the size and cab.
The first thing I had to do on the 5745 was replace one cylinder head gasket. Not a big job, so while I was working there I did all gaskets, re seated all valves and replaced 5 of them. I also replaced the injectors since I had them sitting in a box I got with the tractor.
I then took it it and harrowed my cow paddock with it. All of a sudden the steering wheel went wild left-right-left-right. Lucky I was going slow. once I stopped it settled down again and I could continue. Apparently it had happened before and just about put my friend in to a ditch.
Next time I used it I drove it through a gateway on the driveway where it went in to full left lock and stayed there.
After reading whatever I could find on the forum I then take off the power steering pump, no leak out the back of this one. I replaced the Oring there and re assembled everything making sure there were no leaks - no air can get in this way.
It worked like a charm until I was carting the second load of firewood to my wood shed and it went in to full left lock again.
This time I took off the power steering cylinder and installed a seal kit. I also found that the adjusting thread was rounded off and that it had self adjusted. I tried to re thread the cylinder but had no luck. I then cut the threaded piece off and welded a new thread on, slightly larger in diameter, ground the old thread off and welded a bit of threaded inch pipe on tho the valve body.
It looked like a factory product and I was rather proud of my effort - until I stuck it back in place!
Blasted full left lock again.!
I had a bit of a play with it again until I noticed that it dripps out of the power steering cylinder/valve body.
I then inspected the Oring on the rod that comes out of the valve body - brand new but looked like it had been chewed by rats.

Is there any hope for this power steering zylinder or do I have to get another one ?
