PTO Clutch not working 2003 6341

I can not engage my PTO without some grinding while holding the the PTO clutch handle up( the lock button is missing) the tractor is in gear clutch pedal depressed 500RPM.

Any help is appreciated.

Having the clutch pedal pressed in won't make any difference to the hand clutch lever, the button is to keep it up to the last and allow you time to change the floor lever so if your not pulling it to the top, the gears will grind. But if it's still grinding you may look at adjusting the cable.

Thanks diyfarmer, do you know the procedure for adjusting the cable? I haven't looked at the tractor yet, it might be straight forward.

Now I never had a 6341 so you'll have to look under the cab where the cable comes out from the lever and follow the cable down to the adjuster is and tighten it up a few turns.
