PTO

I havent used the PTO on my 7211 for a while until a few days ago. When I went to engage it I used the hand clutch as normal but noticed that there was grinding as I enagaged it. Also the PTO seemed to turn the PTO shaft even with the hand clutch engaged. I released the hand clutch and engaged again but it did not stop the PTO turning. Is this a matter of adjusting the hand clutch?

Does anyone know how I might solve this problem?

Hi

Check the PTO clutch adjustment first. Then put the PTO on a machine and run it with the hand clutch pulled up. I should think the clutch plate is either rusted a bit or has some oil on it making it stick. Running it may free it off.

Hi

If you look below the clutch slave cyl you will see a second operating lever inside the main clutch lever. You want about 2 or 3mm of play on it. It will need a bar to feel it as there are 2 strong springs on it inside the clutch housing. It has a rod with left and right hand thread for adjusting it.

I have looked at this and there is a type of lever which is attached to the clutch slave cylinder housing which should have a rod attached to it which is threaded at the front. This rod then goes back along the tractor and seems to operate a lever which is attached to the gearbox/backend housing in front of the rear axle. However the nuts seem to have come loose and the rod has become detached where it is attached at the clutch slave cylinder.

Is this the rod you are talking about? This rod can be easily pulled forward and reattached. I have to get a few new nuts first though.

Hi

This rod sounds like the transmission brake. The PTO lever is lower down. Get someone to operate the PTO clutch handle, you'll see it move.

I looked again and found this second clutch lever. However there is no threaded bar but rather a draw rod which joins this lever to a double lever to which the cable is attached. This draw rod has two holes at the double lever end - if it was changed to the other hole it would pull the clutch lever further when the PTO clutch handle is pulled up. As it is there seems to be little or no play in this draw rod. Just wondering where do I go from here?
There seems to be some scope for tightening the cable a bit.

Also what does the transmission brake do? Is there any particular way of setting this when I attach it back on?

Hi

If you have very little free play it's probably okay. You do need a bar to move the lever against the return springs. I would put the PTO on a machine and use it, see if it frees off.

It slows down the gears when you depress the clutch, to make shifting easier.

Does this have any impact on PTO engagement?
