Hi folks!
Does anyone know what material the rear end (rear axle casting) is made from? Is it cast iron, cast steel, or what, exactly? My tractor is a 6945 of 1978 vintage.
I ask because I have a.. crack in mine, on the underside where the longitudinal supports for the trailer hitch (etc) assembly bolt to the underside of the tractor.
I find out the material compostition so that the welding specialist can plan the repair. Also handy to know would be the material that the longitudinal supports are made of, as it may be that we have to extend one forwards, and drill and tap additional holes into the casting.
The good news is that the crack doesn't seem to be getting worse - just as well, because the tractor is in use all day every day at the moment.
Thanks in advance
