My 4240 is ok except that now the forward/reverse lever doesn't change the direction of the tractor. I am stuck in forward. The lever moves fine, all gears work ok. Anything I should check externally, or does the tractor have to be broken apart? Hope not, as I don't have a shop or the tools ofr a job that big.
Mostly a lever job. (assuming this is a shuttle shift model) Take the cab floor out and the tranmission lid off. Dont use it untill fixed. If a broken shift fork falls between the gears, inevitably some gear teeth will break off and youre into a 2 week job (for an unexperienced dealer, an experienced will do it in a week)
When talking standard 5F/1R transmission, take the clicker bolt out (found right in front of the hi/lo and pto selector levers) and pry it back a notch with a screwdriver so its in the middle position. However i assume you're talking about a shuttle shift as described above.
Yes, it is a shuttle shift model. I have the big repair manual, and probably will at least begin to tackle it myself. Too many things going on right now and never enough time!
