Spool Valves ?

Well boys, I'm in trouble as usual, I have bought an old flail hedgecutter, which uses the spools of the 9641. My problem is that the cable controlled valves are very stiff, making it hard to make smooth movements. Is there any way to adjust the cables so that they move easier? Any help apprecia\ted Thanks.

Dont use oil, but vaseline spray or something. the nylon cables soak up any oil which makes them swell.
