My 5245 runs the battery down almost right away when I try to start it I can not figure it out it is a new battery and it was starting fine. I am curious if the hitch is in the up position or the PTO is engaged could that run it down rapidly? Any help would be great, thanks Chas.
The hitch being up shouldn't affect it as long as it isn't still trying to pump. The PTO shouldn't have any effect.
A battery should never go flat straight away if it is charged fully and is okay. Is the tractor charging ? How do you know the battery is flat ? Does it just appear to be or have you tested it ? It sounds like a connection problem. Try the bottom connection on the solenoid but be careful not to wring it off in the bacolite housing. Check the earth connection is clean where it goes onto the chassis. If all the connections are good, you could have a faulty starter motor.
Thanks Mike, I think I may have found the problem, the battery which I bought in Feb. was never fully charged when I bought it. I charged it up with a trickle charger for 15 hours and when I load test it goes right down. Back to the auto parts in the morning I guess. Thanks Chas.
