Hello
when shifting from forward to reverse with clutch fully pressed and trans in nutral the gears grind before engaging.
The only way i can prevent it from grinding is if i start the engine already in forward or reverse regardles if trans is in 1st or 5th gear!!!
Is there a syncro that stops the counter shafts from turning when clutch is fully pressed??
Any help would be appriciated thanks!!

If your clutch is working correctly, the gearbox should come to a standstill when you press the clutch. If this is not the case, this can be due to the following reasons:
- Pilot bearing defective
- Driver and/or gearbox input shaft teeth worn and/or rusted
- One or more clutch release levers misaligned or broken or never properly adjusted
- Gearbox brake (if equipped with one) not correctly adjusted or worn
- Defect in the hydraulic clutch (if equipped with one), e.g. hose between the master cylinder and slave cylinder of the hydraulic clutch swollen inside.

Defect master cylinder and slave cylinder
Sounds like clutch problems alright. Is that a shuttle tractor? If the was gone altogether, when you start the tractor in gear while holding in the pedal, does the tractor start moving straight away or can you hold it stationary?

there is no grinding when shifting from 1st to 5th gear only forward to reverse so that would eliminate pilot bearing, hose and clutch release levers???
how can i tel if my trans is equiped with a gearbox brake ???

its a mecanical shuttle with lever at base of seat, and no tractor does not move while in gear and clutch pedal pressed.
its as if the counter shaft never stops turning!!

My old 10641 was like that, it had a mechanical shuttle, which needed to use the clutch pedal. My tractor when it was getting old used to do that the odd time too. When you pull back the gearstick it didn't always just slip sweetly into gear.

good morning how can i tell if i have a gear box brake and where would you adjust it???
I have a 1998 6340 i thought it was the older models that had a gearbox brake!!!

If your 6340 is from 1998, and as i can see has a Carraro front axle its not a old model of this series. Its a newer one.

Zetor delivered certain gear box variants, make a photo fromt the left side, a little bit above your slave clutch cylinder. If a rod goes up first and then diagonally backwards, it should have the transmission brake. As I said - photos would be the easiest.

Ok will take some tonight thanks for the help!!!

Forgot to take pictures but i looked on the left side and it does have a gearbox brake!!
I found the problem the linkages from the clutch slave cylinder to the gearbox brake are all worn out all the holes are all oval. I will open the transmission cover to inspec the wear on the brake shoe and repair all the linkages then adjust it, i will keep you informed !!!
Thanks again for the help!!!

The transmission brake is actually only useful when changing gears from a standstill. When driving, you then have to use the clutch when changing gears from 1 to 2 to 3 and gears 4 and 5 are then synchronized (if the synchronizer rings are still OK).
Please be careful, don't just look at the brake pad from above, but fold it over a little to see the underside, that's where it wears out the most.

Ok will do!!
Weird thing is i have no grinding when putting it in 1st to5th gear from a stand still only when going forward to reverse if the tractor is started in nutral !! I will check the point s we discussed and get back to you if it does'nt solve the problem.
