Having bought both the owner's manual and the workshop manual for my 4340 (with cab), I just had to start tinkering around with it. Checking out the fuses, I found a small electrical socket of some sort. It's about 13mm diameter, and underneath the starter button location. You have to be looking up from the floor to see it. What would this have been for?
Also, after removing the cowling under the steering wheel, I saw a small contact switch just above and to the right of the clutch pedal. It had contacts for two wires, but none were connected to it. The clutch pedal could not have activated the switch, because it was about 30 mm or so offset. What is this switch used for?

Now for the biggie. My tractor is leaking hyd./trans. fluid, even when not running. It appears to be coming from the top of the transmission housing, and running down the left side (battery side) of the trans. It's all over the underside of the tractor, since it leaks around and drips on the driveshaft, where it's slung from front to back. There appears to be an inspection "window" on the left side of the transmission, just above the clutch slave cylinder. I'm guessing this is to inspect the clutch fork/throwout bearing. The leak is higher up than this window, and running down across the "window". Is this a common leak, and easily repairable? Or do I just add some fluid once in a while? Thanks in advance.

Doesnt your tractor have the fully hydraulic power steering fitted ? If you had hydro power assist, it could be the steering housing. On fully hydraulic steering models, there are no gears in this box Anymore.

Eastern European syle electrical accessory socket! My tractor has one but in a slightly different location on the dash.

Are you sure that it couldn't have activated the switch? Something bent, displaced or missing maybe? My thought was a safety cut out so that engine cannot be started without first depressing the clutch. My owners' manual speaks of this feature, however I can't see any signs of it on my tractor.

Thanks for the input, guys. As for the switch near the clutch, the clutch pedal has a tab or "tang" at the top that limits the pedal travel. There would have to be something attached here to activate this switch, which appears to be a single-pole momentary contact switch. I guess it's like all those wires under the console that aren't plugged to other wires-probably there for use in other models with other features.

The switch by the clutch pedal should have a leaf spring fitted underneath it's mounting that is struck by the clutch pedal tang to act as a safety switch so the starter can only be operated with the clutch pedal depressed. When the leaf spring breaks it falls onto the cab floor & the starter will not operate as a short term repair untill a new spring can be obtained the two wires can be joined together, this is what may have been done to your 4340

I havent seen any replaced spring in finland if original is get broken... everyone just joint those wires together ;) ;) ;) ;)
