question Z 6245 front driveshaft transmission housing broken from a loose piece inside

Unbelieveable...my wife was driving the tractor, unloaded, and a loose piece (from the transmission?) broke a hole in the housing that covers the large gear to the front driveshaft. All the gear/hydraulic oil drained out.

Previous to this, my son had pulled a stuck delivery truck from the snow on our road. He said that the Hi-Lo lever stopped working and was free-moving. Previously the small pin holding the lever had broken and I thought that the problem and was not concerned.

I should have checked! That pin was intact. What broke was inside the transmission and apparently had fallen to a point where, when my wife was driving, it was captured between the large gear turning the front driveshaft and the wall of the transmission housing. It is roughly straight down from the hi-lo lever to the damaged housing.

The housing has four vertical bolts that I can see. They are removed, but the housing will not release. Light hammer tapping, a cold chisel applied at the separation and a crowbar have not dropped the housing yet. My manuals do not show anything else that holds the housing on. I want to get the broken part out before I move the tractor to work on it.
Any ideas?

Thanks, Spots???

The housing is held on with 8 bolts. Four of the bolts are M10 x 28 & the other four are M10 x 110 undo all 8 and housing will come off easily.

Sorry for the accident, but you had luck !!
now you can replace the 4wd housing, instead of the whole transmission compartment !!:D
