Our 4340 is a 1996 with about 1500 hours. It had been running fine until it overheated and shut down, and it would restart if it cooled off. We did tow it back to barn & found that we needed to replace the water pump.
Now there is a tapping noise and there is residue oil on exhaust manifold. There is a little bit of oil dripping out of blow-by and there is smoke.

Any ideas what this may be?

This is probably beyond our expertise so we are looking for mechanic in the Akron/Canton/Cleveland areas. Anybody have a recommendation?

sounds like toasted piston rings. Any engine mechanic can do the job for you, its just replacing the piston and liner kits and having the valves ground at an overhaul shop.

But if the engine got this bad from overheating, you have toasted the oil as well, crankshaft bearings need replacement too, and maybe a crank regrind.... You can check that once the oil pan is dropped, you need to drop it anyways to hammer the piston liners out.
