hi

I have a 1973 Zetor 4718 that has been sligtly modifyed, the engine has been rebuilt from ground up with new cylenders and pistons, pistons with 4 rings were used. Cylender heads from zetor 7745 with bigger ports and valves, turbi head gasket, modified intake manifold from the same tractor, tube exaust header custom made and a Garrett GT17 VGT turbo and of course an intercooler. Now for the question, i am wondering how much boost would be ok for this engine before it blows up? Does anyone know anything about what to beware of while doing this?

The turbine is boosting 45 psi (3.1 bar) and the back wheels spin through all the gears

Before it blows up... It also depends on how many hours you want to use that hp... We use JD industrial engines at work, they say they can calculate the lifespan of an engine from the hourly fuel consumption of the particular application...

It has to be able to last for about 5-7 minutes at full power with the 45 psi boost pressure. I have modifyed the fuel pump and the engine still gives me a black smoke at full power and full boost. How strong are these 4718 engines? With the stronger pistons the 4 ring ones

You can decrease the black smoke by putting the timing a little earlier i think: the 4712 only used a fraction of the pump stroke, now you're using the full stroke so it injects over a broad crank angle. The black smoke occurs when the piston is way over the dead point , when the compression lowers again, and the pump is still injecting fuel .

This is worth a watch ;) and not even a hint of black smoke, i'd love to know the specs.

Whatever the question was, the answer is MORE POWER

Are you still sure about your signature after that video??
Awsesome viewing, but I would not like to be in the same field as him, never mind on the mudguard.....

that is a volvo tractor with a petrol engine from a volvo 240 car. so its no wonder why there is so little black smoke :p
