Does anybody know how to check the steering box oil level?
I have seen the fill plug in the owner's manual and have located it inside frt left in tractor cab in a port on the floor. I am not sure on how to check if there is any oil in the box? I have the parts, workshop and owners manuals and still could not find the answer to this.

Is the tank for the power steering not under the bonnet in front of the radiator on that tractor?

Hello, thanks for your response,
I'm looking at the (steering rack) underneath the steering wheel and column . Attached to the box left side is the first steering link that goes to the steering cylinder. In the manual there is a diagram showing the fill hole in the left side cab floor under console, but does not show or say anything concerning the drain plug nor how to check the level of oil needed in the box. I would need this information to change and or check the steering box oil. I just got the tractor and would like to change all of the fluids before I use it.

I have a manual to suit a similar model and I see the picture you are looking at, its under the clutch pedal.
Even though I had a 6718 and several of the 72,77 and 73 models I never touched that.
If you change the power steering oil and the filter would probable be good enough

In the manual it says there is a drain plug on the bottom of the steering box and the filling hole is the level when to check and it wholes 1.6 litres

Excellent!
I will check under the cab to try and find the drain plug. For now I will add oil until it comes out of the fill plug as I cannot see any oil there.
Thanks again for your input.

Great hope that works out ok, I have a manual if you need any more answers

Never noticed that either my advice no need as the power steering cylinder is the weakest part of that system and tractors with 4wd or loaders it,s that part that wears out .While the seal can fail between the pump and engine and oil would leak in to the engine sump.

And you be surprised how many owners of tractors have never ever changed the filter on the steering. I forget the amount of filters on crystals I changed that are so heavy that as your unscrewing them they be like lumps of concrete
