I took my Zetor 5245 in to a shop to have some work done. One of the things they were to fix was a leak in the steering. They told me that it was the steering assist cylinder that had an o-ring that was torn. They replaced the o-ring and after putting it back together it seems to be powering in the opposite direction. If you steer to the right the power tries to force the wheels to the left. They say they have tried to adjust the system but did not help . It sounds to me like they have something hooked up backwards.
Can anyone give me any ideas?

They might have plumbed in the oil lines backwards..
But they would be very dumb if they didn't see that..

I think they havent adjusted the length of the cylinder, on the threaded end, mounted to the tractor frame.
The powersteering allways sends the cylinder back to the mid (halfway) position. This gives a more stabile track on the road at higher speeds. When the system is not adjusted, i.e. the steering cylinder is too long or short, the auto centering will not center the wheels but push them to a side, depending on the length of the cylinder.
I think one of the steering arms needs adjustment.

I hope this helps. If not, could you give a more precise description of what happens ?

The way he explained it to me is if you keep left pressure on the steering wheel the wheels will turn to the right and Vis-Versa. It doesn't sound like they can even drive it to see if it will track straight.

I'm almost afraid to think that I have someone working on my tractor that would hook up the line backwards but I can't figure out what else it could be. If it is not fixed by Friday I am going to go look at it.

When the engine starts does the steering wheel turn by itself? If it does the power steering is not adjusted correctly where the control valve fits into the ram, to adjust slacken clamp on the end of the chrome piston & start engine at very low revs carefully turn the piston rod if symptoms get worse turn piston in opposite direction untill steering wheel stops moving by itself. If severely out of adjustment you may have to stop the engine to be able to turn the piston rod. Finally tighten clamp.

I called to serviceman and ask him if it did this, and he said that it did at first but they was able to adjust it and got it to stop turning. Now it seems as though the fluid pressure is pushing on the wrong side of the piston.

Is your serviceman a certified dealer ??
I think he is responsible for the problems and should fix it for free. He has caused a failure that wasn't there, before he touched it.

It really sounds like a bad plumbing job. At least he could try to put the lines backwards to see if it makes a difference.
But i think he tried that before he called you...
