Gday, so I'm restoring my 8011 atm and bolted on the side of the engine is a compressor v belt driven but is disconnected and in need of repair it looks factory just wanted to know if anyone has any more information on these units

Ok so i searched this forum for info on this and most posts suggest 2 leavers to activate the pump, so unless im blind i only have 1 lever as my picture shows

Crystal compressor has only one lever to engage it.
I see yours has an inlet filter fitted. most had a pipe to the aircleaner unit. maybe the aircleaner on yours rusted out and a non genuine one was fitted that didn't have the rerquired pipe.
Our experience of thse pumps was good, we never had a problem with one, most were disconnected because the jockey pulley bearings packed up. These are easily replaced and should be checked occasionally. We fitted sealed bearings but took out the inner shrouds and added extra high melting point grease in the gap betweenthe 2 bearings. They run at 4 times the crank speed at least and are heated by radiator heat as well so its not suprising they give up after 1500 hrs or so.

The pulleys all turn ok so the bearings feel fine, I asked the previous owner and they said after the first set of belts broke they went replaced, so I have one more question, I am going to pull it off and inspect it anyway cause wasps had built a nest in it, if I undo the 4 long Allen key bolts and knock it off what's behind it? Is it connected to the engine somehow behind for an oil feed or is it just a solid flat mount point?

Yes. It just pulls off the engine leaving a big hole through which the oil to lubricate it splashes

the jockey wheel pulley that dave talks about .Should have a grease nipple in the centre . It sometimes gets so full of dirt that you dont see it.

I had a suspicion that there should be a grease nipple there

None of ours had a nipple, just a very small hole, could only be greased with a chainsaw grease gun, so it didn't get done

Would it be possible to drill it out and tap a thred in it to put a grease nipple if thats the case ?

Guya, i've pruned this thread a bit. you can send a private message for "slow-chatting" allright ? :)
